{"id":3285,"date":"2018-06-18T14:54:24","date_gmt":"2018-06-18T14:54:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/live-clarivate-innovative.pantheonsite.io\/?p=3285"},"modified":"2021-07-06T10:56:07","modified_gmt":"2021-07-06T14:56:07","slug":"the-pcc-and-me","status":"publish","type":"blog","link":"https:\/\/www.iii.com\/whats-new\/the-pcc-and-me\/","title":{"rendered":"The PCC and Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>This blog post comes from Martha Rice Sanders, Senior Consultant at Innovative<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As someone who began cataloging in my infancy, well, early 20s, performing copy cataloging of musical sound recordings at the University of Illinois, I have dreamed of participating in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/aba\/pcc\/053\/table.html\">PCC<\/a> (Program for Cooperative Cataloging). \u201cPCC members contribute high quality records and subject proposals conforming to approved standards\u201d with four programs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BIBCO (monographic cataloging)<\/li>\n<li>SACO (serials cataloging)<\/li>\n<li>NACO (name authorities)<\/li>\n<li>SACO (subject authorities)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Although my work responsibilities precluded my direct participation while working in libraries for nearly four decades, I benefited from the PCC\u2019s many educational programs and its members\u2019 work to promote \u201cuseful, timely, and cost-effective cataloging that meets mutually-accepted standards of libraries around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, as a member of Innovative\u2019s Consulting and Educational Services team, I have attended the last two PCC meetings at the Library of Congress and am reading the posts to PCC\u2019s listserv. The PCC community is doing really exciting work with linked data, exploring how it can get our collections and services out into the Web, but also how we can use linked data to enrich the discovery experience within our user communities.<\/p>\n<p>Participation in the PCC has informed the creation of two new Innovative workshops, or \u2018boot camps\u2019, I am leading \u2013 Metadata and Cataloging Essentials (for the Accidental Cataloger). For Cataloging Essentials, I\u2019ve included what I learned about various PCC projects, such as the one to eliminate some ISBD punctuation, and some of the education materials created by the PCC.
